"Since its inception the MonSTaR Cup has grown to become the single largest annual fundraising event for the Motor Neurone Disease Association of NSW. Funds raised through the MonSTaR Cup have helped provide much needed equipment and support to people with MND enabling people to communicate and stay at home with their families, friends and stay part of the wider community, also supporting research into this dreadful disease. For a person with MND the average life expectancy from diagnosis is 27 months. The motor neurones die leaving the person paralysed; often unable to speak, eat and sometimes breathe for themselves. "The MonSTaR Cup support we have received these past 5 years has been fundamental to ensuring we continue to grow and strengthen as an organisation. Being a small charity, it is difficult to attract donations and corporate sponsorship. Yet, without it we cannot survive.
Every child who comes to STaR has a unique story. Some of the injustices and indignities they have suffered in their short lives are difficult to understand, let alone accept.
The greatest gift we can give our children is education and the ability to socialise. The MonSTaR Cup has enabled the STaR Association to continue to provide these opportunities and expand our services. Currently we are supporting almost 50 children in 11 childcare centres, and we would love to increase the number of children we support in the future.
The success of The MonSTaR Foundation is not measured only by the amount of money it generates but also by its ability to increase awareness of Motor Neurine Disease and children with disabilities in a very sensitive and supportive manner.
