Well MonSTaR 2011 has been and gone, and we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you who came along on the day and or evening and made the event a huge success. There was widespread acclamation for the running of the night, with food, comedian and band all receiving high praise.

We are very pleased to announce that we raised in excess of $150,000 on the day and night, and we will soon be in a position to distribute funds to our respective charities.

Here's a summary of the significant moments from the day:

MONSTAR CUP 2011 Golf Event

The golf event was contested by over 200 players, and the 2011 winner of the Fiona Pearce Memorial Trophy was the team from Bing Lee: Olly Sunstrum, Gary Lee, Brian Taylor and Alex Turner, with a massive score of 102.
Runners up were the JALaw Team: James Antonenas, Troy Trisley, Robert Trisley and John Harris.

Nobody managed to ace the 18th which would have yielded an Audi A1, however Craig Stubbs gave it a big scare by finishing one metre from the pin after rolling across the front of the hole. Special mention to PHGC Asssistant Professional Geoff Black who did manage an ace on the day on the 6th, which yielded Geoff a more modest prize of a Crystal Decanter and bottle of Dewars scotch.

NUMBER 1 BADGE AUCTION

The live auction saw very keen bidding for the honour of being the inaugural holder of the Number 1 Badge of MonSTaR Foundation. The winners were Tony Hargreaves and Andrew Melville the principals of Renascent Interiors and Constructions, who have been huge supporters of MonSTaR from the outset. The final bid of $11,000 was just enough to outlast Ross Jackson of Jackson Industries and Richard and Joanne Zalm of Zalm Hairdresssing. Renascent will occupy pride of place on our website for the next 12 months, and the boys are off to lunch with Peter Overton along with Mark, Hamish and Greg to celebrate the occasion.

All 100 keys were sold and it wasn't until the last few keys were being tried did the winner emerge. The lucky winner was Kate Whitney of Shriro, who was the kind donor of the Casio digital piano towards our silent auction, so you will agree that Kate was a most deserving winner.

GUESS THE GOLF BALL: The guessing competition for the number of balls in the boot of the Audi went to Stuart Myers of Team Zurich with his guess of 980 balls when in fact there were 976 balls in the boot.

COLONIAL FIRST STATE AND 2UE

The day produced a major surprise, in that 2UE had been running a "nominate your favourite charity" promotion in conjunction with Colonial First State, and the winner was to be announced on Friday afternoon at 5.30pm. We received advice during the day that MonSTaR had been nominated by "Brooke from Lindfield" and to be on standby for a live radio cross if we were selected. As fortune had it, we were selected as the winner, and as such Brooke and greg Hargreaves were live to air when our Patron Peter Overton phoned in to 2UE to join the conversation to advise the listening audience that he was proud to be our Patron and indeed was on his way to MonSTaR 2011 !! Our win gained us a bonus $4000 to add to our coffers for the day.

MEMBERSHIP

We are grateful to those of you who decided to join the Foundation on the night, and we welcome the following to our membership base. We would particularly like to thank one of our long time volunteers Cyril Denny who not only joined the foundation but made a donation of $500 for which we express our thanks. We will draw the winner of the camera at our next MonSTaR meeting and advise the lucky winner; this will also include the member who have joined the last couple of weeks.
